Late Summer 2016 App Update

Here at FLIR we’ve invested a tremendous amount of time and resources over the past few years making the FLIR ONE devices and FLIR ONE apps into things that can and will change the way consumers see the world around them. Consumer demand for those products is very strong and growing fast, and we’re already getting excellent reviews from customers and industry, but one thing that can drive further consumer usage and value is really good third party apps that use the FLIR ONE. Through the FLIR ONE developer program we’ve seen over 30 FLIR ONE apps released to date and there are more coming out every month. This seems like a great time to highlight a few apps you might want to check out.

Thermori-on

On the entertainment apps front, a clever new Android FLIR ONE app was recently released that you might want to check out. Thermori-on is a thermal musical instrument, inspired by “Tenori-on”, using your FLIR ONE to divide the camera’s view up into cells, measure the temperature of each cell, and then play musical notes based on those cells. Thermori-on lets you explore and change the soundscapes created by the heat of your environment!

Thermal Analysis

On the education front a really good iOS app is the Thermal Analysis app by Vernier. Vernier is a worldwide leader in science education and they’ve unleashed a science education app and curriculum that very effectively teaches students about thermal imaging. The app itself and the curriculum are excellent, and the number of cool thermal imaging features enabled in the app is exciting.

Comfort Tracker

A really good DIY / home improvement app is the Comfort Tracker app by Owens Corning – available for both iOS devices and Android devices. This app guides you through the process of either finding and fixing energy leaks or inefficiencies in your home and it can also guide you through the process of doing a thorough energy efficiency audit of your own building – or that of a client.

Boat Beacon

If you spend time on the water you may want to check out the iOS Boat Beacon app for the FLIR ONE. Recently updated by PocketMariner to add thermal imaging features, this app uses AIS to show the positions of ships around you when at sea including bearing and distance and closest point of approach (CPA). It also has a Marker button (MOB) which you can use to mark a spot and track its location. Boat Beacon’s Augmented Reality view shows the ship positions, a thermal view, and MOB overlaid on the live Camera View.
